ABOUT THIS TOOL

Check the pixel dimensions of an image and calculate its effective resolution at a selected print width.

Important: Journals set different figure requirements. Effective DPI is only one criterion; this tool does not check color profile, compression artifacts or vector suitability.

How it works

Method: Effective DPI = image width in pixels / printed width in inches; 1 inch = 25.4 mm.

Example: A 1,200-pixel-wide image printed at 100 mm is approximately 305 DPI. Check the target journal’s own figure specifications.
